Dear Students and Parents,
Please allow me to take a moment to welcome you to the 7th- grade team for an exciting and eventful year. My name is Todd Wright, and I will be your child’s World Geography teacher. In addition, I am also the Social Studies Instructional Team Leader.I received my undergraduate degree in secondary education with a major in history from Salisbury and my master’s degree in Administration from McDaniel. This will be my 22nd year teaching at Clarksville Middle School, and the excitement and anticipation I feel with beginning a new school year never seems to lessen.
During this first week of school, my students will have the opportunity to cover some rules and expectations for my class. I wanted to send a copy of what we discussed for you to keep at home, so that through working as a team, we can ensure that your child finds success in my classroom.
1. Be Prepared – Please bring to class each day a pencil and a binder. Students will keep their textbooks at home and a work folder in class.
2. Our class textbook is quite large, so a class set will be available in our classroom.
3. Hand in all assignments when they are due. If assignments are frequently turned in late or missing, I will contact the parents to advise them of my concerns. In the event of an absence, the student will need to personally contact me at a convenient time upon return to school to receive make-up work. I will also try to post classwork and handouts on this page.
4. Students grades will be calculated on a point system based on percentage. Every assignment is given a point value and a weight category. At the end of each quarter, all of the points a student accumulates will be divided into the total points attempted. A percentage grade will then be given based on the criteria listed below:
90% and above = A
80% - 89%= B
70% - 79% = C
60% - 69% = D
59% - below = E
A variety of assignments will be given each quarter, including homework, tests and quizzes, class work/practices, essays, and projects.
I encourage all parents and students to check Canvas on a regular basis to keep track of their child's progress.
5. In addition, we will have some repeating assignments that are given on a regular basis throughout the school year. These assignments will be recorded in the practice/classwork category.
6. Finally, in order to encourage communication between parents, students, and myself, I encourage you to use the class website that contains a great deal of information relating to my World Geography classes. I will make every attempt to keep this site updated with weekly assignments and other important information relating to our class.
I welcome and encourage open communication among the parent, student and teacher. Please don’t hesitate to call me at 410-313-7057, should you have any questions or concerns relating to your child or my class. You can also email me at [email protected] if it is more convenient.
Again, I want to welcome you to CMS, the 7th grade team, and to my class. I am looking forward to working with your child and you throughout the upcoming school year.
Sincerely,
Todd Wright
